Galva Arts Council

So here we are...a new website!  We hope this will provide a simple and easy way to keep track of everything GAC.  Be sure to look around the site.  I'll be putting up many pictures from recent events, notices for upcoming events and any other relevant GAC happenings.

If you are not a current member of Arts Council, check out the "Join Us!" page.  You can purchase a membership with a credit card through Paypal.  It's quick and easy and will help support GAC do what we do.  A membership will give you a discount on all GAC events.  But remember, so much of what we do is free to begin with!

April 2016

A Coffeehouse and a Photo Show

Laura Joy

Our featured performer for April was Laura Joy accompanied by David Gallagher.  It was a night filled with "music, life and everything else" as Laura puts it.  It was an engaging set of songs mixed with a dash of humor - a perfect combination of a spring evening.

2016 Photo Show

We wanted to switch things up a little bit for our annual photo show, namely moving it from July up to April.  All apologies if anyone missed it, we did all we could to get the word out.  In the long run it will work out better given how packed schedules are for Galva Freedom Fest.  The awards show was a hit and judge Roger Luft (a big thank you!) gave everyone a very good education in how to take great. photographs.  Congratulations to all the winners!
Piano Potluck 2016
It was an evening of food, fun and fingers on March 26th at the Galva Arts Center.  We are blessed to have so many talented people in our community.  We celebrated the donation of a grand piano to the Arts Council by Mary Gerwig (originally from Kewanee).  It will be put to good use for many years to come!

March 2016

Back for another round of Celtic tunes, Exorna filled the GAC Center with hungry ears.  Victor led the singalongs and Forrest fiddled away with such fury by the time the evening ended, grateful attendees were nearly out of breath but very happy.

Jonny Lipford

February 2016

A packed house greeted Cedar Rapids, IA native Jonny Lipford who treated everyone to a soulful performance using a variety of Native American style flutes.  An engaging storyteller, Jonny wove together story and song for a night those in attendance won't soon forget.  Check out his vast collection of recordings here.

Cody Lee - January 2016

A thanks to Cody Lee of Champaign, IL for a rousing show on a snowy, frigid Saturday Night.  Cody warmed things up for an appreciative crowd with a great set of original music with a few choice covers.  Check out Cody's website if you didn't get a chance to attend and pick up some of his music here.

The open mic session after Cody's performance was filled with tunes from Paddy and the Two Tom's (Paddy Sloan, Tom Wallenfeldt and Tom Campbell.)  A fitting end to a fun evening.  Special thanks to Karen Hawkins, Nancy Anderson, Paula Luft, Barb Caravello and Deb Johnson for the delicious food!
